Judo is a Japanese martial arts form that emphasizes grappling, joint locks and throws.
The word Judo translates to “the gentle way”, likely because its techniques are generally intended to use an opponent’s force to your own advantage rather than to directly oppose it. This puts Judo in contrast to other martial arts like taekwondo and also makes it a practical one to learn for self-defense purposes even if the student is not interested in pursuing it as a competitive sport.
A Judo gi is required clothing for classes. We have loaner gis available for first-time students.
Students grow in each class through practicing new skills and technique work, such as Nage Waza (Judo throws), Te Waza (hand techniques) and Koshi Waza (hip techniques).
Kickboxing is a striking-based martial art that combines punches, kicks, footwork, and defensive movement.
Students learn how to generate power with proper technique while improving balance, coordination, endurance, and confidence.
Classes provide an effective full-body workout and practical self-defense skills, making Kickboxing a great option for students interested in fitness, martial arts training, or competition.
Boxing gloves, hand wraps, and shin guards are recommended for class. Comfortable athletic clothing should be worn, and loaner equipment may be available for first-time students.
Students improve through technical instruction, pad work, partner drills, and conditioning exercises. Classes cover proper stance, movement, punches, kicks, combinations, and defensive techniques.
Students with sufficient experience and control are also welcome to participate in supervised sparring.
