Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a ground-based martial art and combat sport. That teaches you the art of close-contact grappling and the fundamental principles of applying pressure, timing, leverage, and angles to your advantage. Through BJJ training, you will learn how to take an opponent to the ground and achieve non-violent submission using techniques such as joint locks and chokeholds.
BJJ combines strength and cardio for a full-body workout that can improve your muscle tone and promote weight loss. Along with challenging your body, it challenges your mind. It has been called “human chess” because it teaches you reasoning and planning skills along with new movements and techniques. Grappling with opponents can also improve your balance, body awareness and increase reaction time.
A gi is the uniform for training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. We required a gi for class. If you are trying out Jiu-Jitsu for the first time, don’t worry about purchasing one right away! We have loaner gis that are available for you to borrow.
We offer BJJ classes for kids (ages 5 – 13) and adults. A typical class begins with a warmup. After the warmup, the instructor will teach you techniques and give you a chance to practice through drills and rolls.
